Our roots

The Swiss physician Paracelsus said, “For every ailment there is a herb.“The question is: which herb for which ailment? In our encyclopedia, we present 46 medicinal plants whose active ingredients we process in our medicines.

Our secret

Our Spagyrics complexes are designed to relieve symptoms and restore  strength to the human organism. Dr. Peter Beyersdorff had the idea to get the best out of the plant and to combine complementary active ingredients. For this purpose, he has further developed a traditional method into a unique and registered procedure – PEKANA Spagyric.

Our Secret

Our Craft

Our craft

Around 80 people work at PEKANA on natural products in accordance with international pharmaceutical standards. We carry out all the steps in the production process directly on site in Kisslegg in the Allgäu region and process plants, more than 80 percent of which come from the region. We deliver our products to almost 20 countries around the world.

How we became who we are

PEKANA is a medium-sized family business in Kißlegg in the Allgäu region, managed by co-founder Katharina Beyersdorff and her son Dr. Marius Beyersdorff.

PEKANA offers a complete range of 70 spagyric complexes to support most common ailments. Through years of theoretical and practical research in natural holistic therapies and spagyrics, as well as his extensive practical experience in pharmacy, Dr. Peter Beyersdorff developed a unique series of indications of specific spagyrics. His drive to maximize the potential of these remedies motivated him to conduct research and develop his own manufac-turing method.

The result was one of the very few spagyric manufacturing procedures registered in the pharmacopoeia: PEKANA Spagyrics! Based on this foundation, Katharina and Dr. Peter Beyersdorff founded PEKANA Naturheilmittel GmbH in 1980. The company name is derived from their initials: PE(ter), KA(tharina), and NA(turheilmittel). Behind its founding lies the consistent action to bring its vision to life: „A change towards an awareness of integrative medicine – a combination of conventional and naturopathic healing methods“. PEKANA achieves this through the tension between consistency and the courage to embrace new ideas. Because – what can be improved must be improved. This is how PEKANA will continue to rethink health in the future: naturally, humanely, and holistically.

Clever combinations

Clever combinations

We combine the healing compounds from freshly harvested plants to create spagyrics according to our own recipes. Every preparation contains up to eight different active ingredients to precisely target the organs associated with the complaint.

The idea behind this approach comes from Paracelsus, the herald of modern medicine. He said, “Once a disease has entered the body, all parts which are healthy must fight it: not one alone, but all.” In accordance with this principle, our remedies provide reinforcement to each and every body, just exactly where it is no longer able to help or regulate itself. The recipes used for our complexes are effective when used to aid/help all common ailments.

PEKANA spagyric

Plants contain healing ingredients. But how can the active ingredients of the plants be comprehensively extracted in order to be effective in the body? The answer: using the spagyric method. This ancient method, developed further over time, separates out the active ingredients of the plant, works on them and then brings them back together and has been delivering results for years.

The natural healing process builds on the notion of Paracelsus, that it is possible to extract the healing power of a plant. The PEKANA spagyric method takes fresh plants and creates what is known as a mother tincture – a pure concentrate of the healing ingredients.

Step 1: Process the plant

We mince the fresh plants, add water and sugar and allow them to ferment with pure yeast. This separates the effective elements from the gross structure of the plant.

Step 2: Purify the active ingredients

We press and filter the residue and liquid produced in the first step. This separates the liquid part (containing the active ingredients) and the ephemeral components (for example essential oils) from the solid parts (pressed residue).

Step 3: Heating the residue

The pressed residue turns to ash at around 900 degrees Celsius. What remains are the mineral components of the plant. We dissolve the purified minerals by stirring in hot water and then we filter the liquid a second time to purify it further.

Step 4: Purifying again

In the final step, we combine the mineral components of the plant with the filtered fermented liquid. We then process the mother tincture with other mother tinctures from our range to create powerful complexes.

In 1991, PEKANA Spagyrics were awarded the Innovation Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg for exemplary performance. PEKANA holds the “Good Manufacturing Practice” (GMP) certificate and is regularly inspected by the American health authority, the “Food and Drug Administration” (FDA).

Katharina Beyersdorff

The need for a holistic approach to people and their health has driven us from day one. This was also the motivation for the development of a comprehensive product range based on a unique production method: the PEKANA spagyric preparation procedure. This is the foundation of our business – and will remain so moving forward.

CO-FOUNDER KATHARINA BEYERSDORFF

However, in order to comprehensively expand the concept of health, it is always necessary to remain open to new ideas and to seize opportunities when they arise. But some things will never change: our passion for our medicines, production in compliance with the strictest pharmaceutical quality guidelines, and fair and honest dealings with our employees, customers and suppliers.
